Beautiful, dense, and late

I'm finishing inks on Top 10 #3. I think this'll be the most beautiful one by far. And because Zander wrote in lots of crowd scenes, it'll have the most Easter Egg cameos for the fanboys to ID!

Invertebrates

Senator Joe Lieberman continues as chairman of the Homeland Security committee of the Senate. Democrats voted 42-13 to keep him there. Wow, what a spineless lot.

Joe's done a horrible job of keeping Bush accountable for his failures. He's held almost no hearings at all, even when shoddy construction leads to US soldiers being electrocuted while taking showers. He's okay with that.

He accused Obama of being the terrorists' choice and campaigned for Senate Republicans (Coleman MN and Collins ME).

Lieberman just bitch slapped his party and they said thank you. His 'apology' was that he was misquoted and misunderstood (i.e. we're stupid).

One of the big reasons Democrats lost so many elections throughout the 90's and after 9/11 is because they're spineless. How can we expect them to stand up against Russia, Iran, China, Hamas, and every other threat in the world if they won't stand up for themselves?

Even now with a huge Senate majority they won't stand up to Joe Lieberman. Looks like the minority Senate Republicans will spend all of 2009 and 2010 steamrolling the majority opposition party. I thought the Republicans were in trouble. But as an American officer said during the Battle of the Bulge, "They've got us surrounded again. The poor bastards."

Gene Futures

I'd been planning on signing an exclusivity deal with Dynamite this month. I can't talk details yet, but I've gotten new info that may change my plans. Someone brilliant and charming from DC got me to double check my facts, and my reasons for signing with Dynamite look dead. Said Editor Charming is preparing me an offer I'll have trouble refusing.

In other news, hard at work on Top 10. Issues 3 and 4 will be late, but I'm making steady progress. Expect more "Easter egg" cameos in 3, including some comics editors, politicians with bad hair (seriously), and the kids of a Phoenix, AZ police.

Also, I have another eBay auction starting later today! I'll post when it's up. You can see an image in the previous post.

Dreamwar closeup

I'll be posting an eBay auction for my and inker Andrew Pepoy's Dreamwar #5 cover tomorrow, so I thought I'd present a larger scan of the image here. Enjoy! Click the picture for the full size image.

How to Vote

For those few souls who are registered to vote but haven't figured out the details, I'm copying and pasting a clever post by Wired magazine's Danger Room blog:

Get and there and do it.

[Gene again]. Still not convinced you should vote? Here are some reasons from an Aqua Teen writer and a Daily show writer:

Obama Rally

Yesterday Lisa and I attended a rally for Obama in Highland, Indiana. The area around Highland, Lake County, is blue collar steel mill country just off Lake Michigan and across the state border from Chicago, Illinois. Not a bad drive, but we were surprised by how few Chicagoans were there. It was around 20,000 Hoosiers, as Indiana residents call themselves. Lisa and I both grew up in Indiana.

I was a little taller, had a better angle, and a better camera than a lot of folks behind me. Some of them asked me to send them copies of the photos I took. I promised to post copies to my website.

Click here for my Flickr photo set of all the photos that came out OK. Once you're there, click on the "All Sizes" link to see a larger copy of any image. And here are a few highlights:

The rally was held at a public golf course. In the bar of the clubhouse was a folksy Barack Obama statue. There we were, elitist country club Democrats!

Fellow (non-comics) illustrator and ILA poster artist Patrick Girouard. He's a NW Indiana native. He was signing up volunteers to do more volunteering. Whether you're supporting Bob Barr (Libertarian Party) or Elaine Brown (Green Party), or of course Barack Obama, I hope you'll all do your best to get out the vote.

And if you're a Republican, I guess you'll be filing lawsuits to keep WWII veterans from voting .... I'll be happy if you stop doing that ! ;)

Everyone was amused by Candy Crowley's CNN cameraman, who'd dressed up for Halloween. He's got a plunger on his noggin and a "JOE" name tag on his vest. Look everyone, it's Joe the Media Elite!

The crowd had a good number of kids. Hoping they grow up not to be the cynical mob my generation turned into.

Barack speaks. He speaks good! I'm amused with Republicans who once lauded Reagan as the "Great Communicator" but now act as if knowing how to pronounce "nuclear" is a crime. To quote Dashiell Hammett's Sam Spade, "What do you want me to do, learn to stutter?"

Obama leaves the podium. He asked for unity and tolerance, and never attacked anyone's character, just their ideas. When someone in the crowd mocked Candy Crowley he had to stop because everyone let him know he was being rude. Actually, everyone seemed to like Candy, and there were some jokey yells of "We love you, Candy!"

Love to all, especially our GOP friends and relatives, Gene and Lisa
