Doing Justice
Doug Braithwaite wrote to correct something I wrote in my Aviles post. He did full pencils on Justice, not just layouts. On Top 10 Zander does layouts for me, and I do finishes. Zander's drawings are very loose. I have to add quite a bit to flesh out Zander's compositions. Even so, for layouts Zander does more than most, including word balloon placement and nice backgrounds. Me being me I tend to pimp the backgrounds a lot. So here's the difference between layouts and pencils. Layouts by Zander: Pencils by Doug:

 Hey Dani, Here it is!
Gene
Ha! in FL Dec 8-9, NOT Dec 1-2.
I thought I was going crazy.I'd written down on my calendar that I was attending an event called the Florida SuperCon Dec 1-2. I got contacted this month about them flying me down Dec 7.I looked at the website and felt like an idiot. There it was. There's a Nov 30-Dec 2 Anime Supercon, a Dec 8-9 Florida Comic-Con, and a spring Florida Supercon. How did I mess that up?I hadn't. Their blog entry for August listed me as a guest of the Anime Supercon. I tracked down the original email invitation and I was invited to the Dec 1-2 Supercon. They're a little disorganized. Not unprecedented for con organizers. I pray that none of you had reserved flights and rooms for Dec 1 expecting to see me.I'm a little angry about the problems they might have caused you. As for myself, it doesn't inconvenience me in the least (beyond correcting my website and trying to inform all of you). My schedule is equally clear on both weekends and I still would like to escape from the Chicago chill. To summarize: I will not be attending the Dec 1-2 Anime Supercon. I WILL ATTEND the Dec 8-9 Florida Comic-Con!Hope you're all well, and I'll try to blog my French adventures soon,Gene HaPOSTSCRIPT Subject: invite to Florida Supercon Date: Wed, 14 Feb 2007 20:20:33 -0800 (PST) From: FLORIDA SUPERCON To: XXXX@geneha.com We met briefly at the FX show in Orlando... I'm the promoter of a show in Ft. Lauderdale - Florida Supercon - www.floridasupercon.com I'd like to touch base re: my winter show - Nov. 30, Dec. 1 & Dec. 2 If you're interested, we'd love to have you as a guest. We would of course fly you in, put you up and give you a per diem. If you check out the website, you'll see the type of show we put on. Let me know what you think.
Detailed report from France, abridged.
I'll post more on my con trip to France later, when I have more time. For now, a few photos: Lille at night. Barry Kitson hard at work sketching. One of the first friends I made in comics, but I hadn't seen him in almost a decade, so Lisa had never met him. Great guy, great comic artist. An image by French comics artist Eric Herenguel. I love his stuff. He has a drawing style reminiscent of John Romita Sr. and a color sensibility like Alphonse Mucha. And he regularly posts updates on his latest projects, unlike some American artists. Je m'accuse! Me and Lisa, as she first steps foot in Paris. From Stéphane, a con volunteer and IT guy in France. Sometimes, a drawing has more truth than photos! I'll try to do a longer post about the BD (La bande dessinée, i.e. comics) in France, the state of DC and Marvel in Europe, and fun people to hang with in Lille! Gene
