Interested in having Gene Ha do a signing at your Con or Store?
The deal is simple. If you can provide for transportation, a decent meal, and decent lodging for my wife and me, I'm willing to schedule an appearance. Go to the Mail link and send me a note!

NBA Playoffs

There are many kinds of geeks in the world. Some of them can pass as normal upstanding citizens. Then there are geeks like me, both male and averse to watching sports.

I like playing sports. I like watching friends playing. I just haven't had much interest in watching a bunch of strangers play sports. It's like watching other people eat: I'd rather join in than cheer someone else on.

My Dad has taken the effort to explain TV basketball to me. Who the players are, who the coaches are, what strategies they're using. He's being very patient.

I should mention that both of my brothers became sports fans and high school athletes without any special prompting from our Dad. I'm pretty uncoordinated.

Anyhow, Lisa's a bit worried. There's about 5 hours of NBA playoffs most nights of the week. This could be pretty time consuming! Lisa has never suffered through sports widowhood before.

I'm glad he's doing it now, but it's too bad that my Dad didn't take the time to introduce me to sports when I was a kid. We would have had a lot more to talk about. And perhaps I would've gotten into sports and had a 'normal' high school experience. It's odd to imagine.

On the other hand, I'm very happy with where I ended up now. I adore my wife, I love my geeky job, and I value my friends and their lack of sports trivia. And now I'm pleased to have something to talk about with my Dad.

My colleagues at Big Time Attic did another personality quiz. Zander and Kevin Cannon don't think they're related but they've been testing this theory by taking pop culture personality quizzes.

Horror of horrors, in the latest installment they ended up as Anakin and Jar Jar. Poor Minnesotans!

I was a little more pleased with my answer, though it means in Star Trek terms I'm the Red Shirt who gets offed to give the villain street cred.

I don't know how much I'm like the character, but I really am like the description. I have an obscure name (my Korean name really is Ha Jin, not far off). I'm willful and Lisa has gotten me into both Yoga and Pilates.

Not so sure about level-headed and I'm not sure how to keep my fields real. I am planning to try organic lawn care when I move into my new house.

If my suspected brother Donn does the test I'll let you know his results. I'm betting Obi Wan or Palpatine. The Force is strong with that one.
